WORKING STUDENT (M/F/D)

AI Innovation & Integration
Help us build an AI colleague.

Bremen | Hybrid | 15-20 hrs/wk | Start flexible

WIA is a highly specialised engineering company developing automated equipment for the global aluminium extrusion industry.

We want to explore how an AI colleague could become part of the way we work. Our starting point is knowledge. We first need to understand what we know as a company. Some knowledge is documented, some is hidden in files and emails, and some exists only in the heads of individual colleagues.

We then want to make that knowledge accessible to everyone who needs it and combine it with the broader knowledge and capabilities of AI.

Over time, we want our AI colleague to help us:

  • find and connect information
  • structure and support projects
  • participate in meetings and contribute where useful
  • capture decisions, tasks and new knowledge
  • communicate through text and voice
  • learn as our company learns

We are looking for someone who wants to help us work out how to make this happen.

Your Role
You will work directly with the company leadership and our team.

Your first task will be to understand how WIA works: what we know, where that knowledge sits, how we use it and where an AI colleague could add value.

From there, you will help define requirements, explore available solutions, build prototypes and gradually develop a system that works for us.

We prefer to use existing solutions wherever they do the job. We are open to commercial products, open-source technologies, cloud services, APIs and automation platforms. Custom development should be used where it creates clear additional value.

The aim is to find the right balance of functionality, performance, cost, security and usability for WIA. We also want to define the ethical principles that should guide how we use AI.

What You‘ll Do

  • Interview colleagues and understand how they work
  • Identify important knowledge in people, documents, emails and systems
  • Translate business needs into requirements
  • Explore and compare available AI solutions
  • Evaluate options based on value, cost, performance and practical fit
  • Build and test prototypes
  • Integrate existing tools and systems
  • Use custom development where necessary
  • Test solutions with the team and improve them based on feedback
  • Help define the technical and ethical principles for our use of AI

Who We Are Looking For
We are not primarily looking for a programmer. We are looking for someone who is curious, technically confident and entrepreneurial.

You should enjoy:

  • Understanding how a business works
  • Talking to people and asking good questions
  • Exploring new technologies
  • Comparing different ways of solving a problem
  • Turning ideas into working solutions
  • Taking ownership and working independently

Your field of study is less important than the way you think. You might be studying Computer Science, AI, Business Informatics, Information Systems, Industrial Engineering, Digital Business or a related subject.

Some programming experience will be useful, but programming is a tool rather than the purpose of the role.

Language
English is required. German is a plus. You should be comfortable working with English-language documentation, tools and communities. German is helpful for working with the team, but it is not a requirement.

What We Offer

  • A real Greenfield AI project
  • Direct collaboration with company leadership and the whole team
  • Responsibility and freedom to shape the approach
  • Short decision paths
  • Flexible working hours and hybrid working
  • The tools and resources needed to experiment
  • Competitive pay

If you enjoy working with people and technology, exploring new ideas and turning them into
practical solutions, we would like to hear from you.
