About WIA
WIA develops and builds highly specialised automation systems for demanding cleaning processes in the aluminium extrusion industry. Our systems are engineered to customer-specific requirements and supported throughout their complete lifecycle.
We are looking for an Industrial Automation Specialist who enjoys solving technical problems, taking ownership and working as part of a small, experienced technical team.
Your Role
The role combines PLC software development with hands-on machine testing, commissioning and technical support.
You will be involved throughout the complete project lifecycle—from software development and machine testing at our production partners to commissioning and customer acceptance. This gives you a thorough understanding of our systems and the opportunity to contribute directly to their continuous improvement.
The role includes international travel for commissioning and customer support. Working directly with our customers also provides valuable feedback for further developing our products.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain PLC software with a focus on Rockwell Studio 5000
- Test automation systems at our production partners and commission them at customer sites
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
- Diagnose and resolve automation, electrical and process-related issues
- Read and work with electrical schematics and documentation (EPLAN)
- Use 3D models to understand equipment layouts, dimensions and installation requirements
- Support service assignments, upgrades and retrofit projects
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of our products and engineering standards
Your Qualifications
Required:
- Qualification in industrial automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics or a comparable technical discipline
- Strong practical experience in PLC programming
- Practical experience with Rockwell Studio 5000
- Experience with commissioning industrial machinery or automated systems
- Ability to read and work with electrical schematics
- Good spoken and written English
- Willingness to travel internationally as part of customer projects
- Independent, structured and hands-on approach to work
Preferred:
- Experience with Siemens TIA Portal
- Background in special-purpose machinery or industrial automation
- Process engineering knowledge
- Proven colloboration with international industrial customers
- Ability to work with CAD / 3D models; design experience is not required
- German language skills
